JEES Magnet School

This is OUR SCHOOL! Jane Edwards is for choice.  Magnet schools are public schools that specialize in specific subjects in addition to providing general education to enhance educational quality that draws students from inside and outside the attendance zone.  If selected by the Charleston County School District, Jane Edwards would service all of its zoned students as well as 7% of students beyond the attendance zone.  Join the school as it collaborates with the community to devise a magnet school concept for Jane Edwards Community School.

In the meeting on April 28th, the themes have been narrowed down to:  Technology, Arts, Math and Science, and Technology combined with either arts, math or science.

Running the Extra Yards!
Countdown To PACT

Beginning the week of April 7th, each homeroom will start acquiring points for "PACT-like" behaviors.  The P stands for perseverance or following through with classroom directions, school rules, completing homework, etc.  The A stands for accountability in their school work, listening skills, being prepared, getting a good nights sleep, checking their answers, etc.  The C stands for confidence shown in themselves with a positive attitude with their peers and teachers.  And the T is for taking ownership of themselves and their environment.

We are encouraging our students to begin to prepare themselves for the PACT test in May.  We want them to be at their best!  Students earn tally marks for displayed PACT behaviors to acquire points.  The points will be converted to yards.  On Fridays, whichever team with the most yards will receive the "spirit stick."  The winning team will also have a pep rally during their lunch period.  The goal is to go the whole 100 yards!!

Here are our teams:
CD - Florida Gators
K - Clemson Tigers
1st - Carolina Gamecocks
2nd - Georgia Bulldogs
3rd - New England Patriots
4th - Dallas Cowboys
5th - New York Giants
6th - Green Bay Packers (Jones)

Thank You, Old Fort Baptist Church

We would like to thank Fort Baptist Church of Summerville, SC for a wonderful community event on Saturday, August 18.  Our community members received free medical attention, uniforms, and school supplies.  They also brought food, games, and a water slide!  We had a great time.  We really appreciate your time and commitment to our students.

We are very fortunate to have wonderful business partners that provide valuable assistance and resources for our students.

Principal's Message

Welcome!  Each school year presents new challenges for all of us; but it also provides an opportunity for us to implement new classroom techniques, teaching strategies and enhance our creative ideas.

We work very diligently as a family (faculty, parents, students and community) to make our school a school of excellence in the Charleston County School District.  We welcome each school year with a great deal of enthusiasm to meet the greater challenges ahead in educating our children, our most precious resources.

I would like to take this opportunity to share the essence/real meaning/soul/fundamental nature of our Academic Vision.  The heart of our educational program is a commitment to 100% literacy and mathematical instruction.  The students at Jane Edwards Elementary School begin their exposure to print in our onsite preschool classes.  As they enter kindergarten they are reading ready.  Students at all levels chart their own progress daily using data from a variety of standards-based assessments through a school-wide database.  Students are seen working in groups on interdisciplinary research projects, reports and discussion groups.  Mathematical concepts are rooted through a concentration on a hands-on curriculum with real world applications that challenge students at a analytical level.  Exemplary student work of all kinds are seen in hallways and classrooms, demonstrating that arts infusion, creativity, critical thinking, thematic lessons and independent work are the culture of the building.  Classification of special education students has become invisible in classrooms that reflect industry, challenge and diversity.

Teachers meet frequently to collaborate on Accelerated Schools strategies, standards based planning and to evaluate strategies.  Analysis of student work is the focus of planning.  There is a free flow of information between grade levels to coordinate programs.  In addition to attending workshops on a variety of topics, teachers meet in cadres to discuss current trends/strategies in the teaching learning process.  Ongoing professional development focuses on student achievement.

Parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate in workshops (i.e. computer, parenting and GED classes).  Change is a collaborative effort at Jane Edwards School, with all stakeholders empowered to take responsibility and to voice ideas, and to share the work of being successful.

Our Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) and the School Improvement Council (SIC) are working collaboratively to offer parents and guardians workshops, informational meetings and volunteer opportunities throughout the learning community.  Strengthening the home-school partnership is an important goal of the Jane Edwards learning community.

I look forward to welcoming you to Jane Edwards School (JES).  Together we will work to improve teaching and learning for every child in order to "Raise the Bar for Excellence!"
